New movie review site Flixter.com

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

http://flixter.com is a recent site devoted to movie reviews. Its arguably better than imdb as a means of filling up your netflix subscription.

Also, you can browse by “currently playing” and by “on dvd” for reviews on current movies.
Wait. . . I havent ranted in a while . . . With awesome tvs and sweet stereos so cheap these days, you can create a sick home theater setup for maybe 2 gs and get a better viewing experience to boot.

Think about it. Movies are now 10$. So, you bring your chick or dood and get her the usual fattening overpriced soda and popcorn for a minimum total of 30$ a flick. If you see a movie 40 weeks a year which is easy if your a big movie fan, that’s 1200$ per annum to which you subtract 200 for netflix for a total of 1G cash.

So, go the alternate route and you’ll have paid off your system in a scant 2 years and likely gotten laid more often.

Movie Review : House of Wax

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

This is an honest to goodness horror movie. It seems lately that scary movies are just as often trying to be funny at the same time but not this one. Lots of people die gruesome deaths and there’s not much joking around.

Yup, even Paris Hilton gets it between the eyes. (more…)

Movie Review : Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

If you’ve never read a Roald Dahl book, your missing out on some serious imaginative reality that can’t be fully captured by watching a movie.

This movie is not perfectly faithful to the book. There is this whole “I’m Willie Wonka and I’m disconnected from my parents” theme that I don’t recall from the book. In order to pull it off, Johny Depp has to act creepy and disturbing which is kind of annoying.

But they had to do something because what made the book so great is the narrative and you can’t get that out of a movie. However in the end, you do get a feel for the magic of the tale so its definetly worth watching.

Wazee Super Club Pizza Cornucopia

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

Ok, so the gang at the new job decided to take me out and even let me choose the location. Nice!

This is another Hickenlooper owned location if my info is right.

So, we ordered twice as much pizza as we needed.  Not on purpose but all those pizza’s sound so good.

The supreme is a given.  Easily one of the most tasty pizza’s I’ve ever tried.  We also had the pesto chicken and the vegetarian.  Pesto was a bit to cheezy. Vegetarian very good as usual.  Can you tell my fav is the supreme?

Lunch at Wynkoop

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

This is a classic Denver hangout. You can always bring anyone there without fear of disappointing or giving a wrong impression. Its classy yet casual and always good.

I had the buffalo burger and substituted the garlic mashed potatoes for the side. These are easily the best mashed potatoes you can get this side of anywhere. The burger is pretty nice too. Make sure you get it rare or medium rare. (Buffalo burger gets overcooked extremely easily) Also, skip the cheese and onions and mushrooms. These are great on regular cow but buffalo has a special good flavor that should not be covered.

In a side note, this place is partially owned by Hickenlooper- the mayor.

Movie : Superman Returns

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

Another superhero blockbuster movie. This is very well done but missing something. The whole movie is just well bland.

Brandon Routh does a good job as Superman. He gets a good timeless quality like Reeve did. Kevin Spacey plays Lex Luthor also very well but (more…)

Movie : Ladder 49

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

You may of noticed that most of my entries are pretty positive. Well, thats because I try to look at the positive in each item. However, once in a while, I run across something with absolutely no redeeming value. No meaning however diminutive. Something so bad that (more…)

The best meatball sub in Denver?

Friday, December 1st, 2006

Could it be? Well, this is in Denver’s little italy if there is one and its served by a cranky italian woman who talks really fast and complains about stuff in the usuall italian way.

Let me describe it. A nice italian loaf at least 10 inches long filled with a generous amount meatballs cut in half(so you dont have to mouth a huge meatball and get it everywhere). Complete with a zesty italian sauce. You can have fresh mozzarella or provolone on it as well as hot or mild peppers.

Sounds typical no? Well, the magic here is the meatballs. They have really very good taste. And I mean a reallllly verrry goood taste.

So, there you have it. My top meatball sub recomendation is carbones on 38th near I 70. Did I mention its only 5.5 dollars?
